What is GDPR?

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is a new EU regulation that replaces the EU Data Protection Directive of 1995.
Its purpose is to significantly improve the protection of the personal data of EU citizens and to strengthen the obligations of companies that collect or process personal data.
It came into force on 25th May 2018 and incorporates many of the security and confidentiality requirements of the 1995 Directive. It also includes several new provisions to strengthen the rights of the people concerned and to add more severe penalties for infractions. You can find the full text of the GDPR here.
